코이어(Coir)
코이어는 코코넛 열매의 겉껍질로 만든 거친 섬유를 의미합니다. 이는 피트모스와 매우 유사한 화학적 특성을 가지고 있습니다. 코이어는 오염물질이 적고, 친수성을 가지고 있어 초기 관수부터 수분을 쉽게 흡수할 수 있는 특징을 지니고 있습니다.
이러한 특성으로 인해 식물용 성장 매체의 구성에서 피트모스 대체재로 사용되기도 합니다. 코이어는 매트 형태로 성형되어 식물을 재배하는 고형 배양 방법에서 사용되며, 이러한 기술을 “코이어 재배”라고 합니다.
Coir
Coir refers to coarse fibers made from the outer husk of coconuts. It possesses chemical properties very similar to peat moss. Coir has minimal impurities, and its hydrophilic nature allows it to absorb moisture easily right from the initial watering.
Due to its characteristics, it is often used as an alternative to peat moss in the composition of growth media for plants. Coir can be shaped into mat-like structures and utilized in solid substrate cultivation methods, a technique referred to as “coir cultivation.”
