“장일식물(Long-day plant)”은 스마트팜과 식물 생태학에서 중요한 개념으로, 하루 동안의 일조 시간이 12시간 이상일 때 화분 분화가 시작되고 개화가 촉진되는 식물을 지칭합니다. 이러한 식물들은 일조 시간이 짧아지는 가을이나 겨울에 화분 분화가 억제되며 개화하지 않습니다.
장일식물은 일정한 일조 시간이 필요한 특성을 갖추고 있습니다. 특히 봄과 여름에 자연적으로 긴 일조 시간이 지속되는 환경에서 개화가 가장 잘 이루어집니다. 장일식물은 특정 기간 동안 개화가 진행되며, 이는 꽃을 형성하고 번식을 위한 준비를 하는 과정입니다.

Long-day plant
“Long-day plant” is an important concept in smart farming and plant ecology, referring to plants that initiate flowering and bloom more vigorously when the duration of daylight exceeds 12 hours. These plants exhibit inhibited flowering as daylight hours shorten during autumn or winter.
Long-day plants have a requirement for a certain duration of daylight. Particularly, they thrive in environments where naturally longer daylight hours are prevalent during spring and summer. Long-day plants undergo a period of flowering, during which they form flowers and prepare for reproduction.
In contrast, there is the concept of “short-day plants,” which flower during the shorter daylight hours of fall or winter. These plants do not flower during the longer daylight hours of summer and instead respond to factors like temperature or other external cues to determine their flowering time.
In a smart farming environment, understanding the characteristics of long-day and short-day plants allows for the adjustment of lighting and daylight conditions to regulate flowering and growth patterns of crops.
